12 Nov Act. Learn. Build and Repeat. A Sensible Approach To Sponsored Content.
Yesterday I was talking to the CEO of a group of newspapers in the Midwest.
I allowed that anyone who says they really know how to make Native Advertising and other sponsored content work is either lying or smoking something.
“That may be true for newspapers and other local media,” he said. “But look at Forbes. Look at BuzzFeed. They are way ahead of us in their thinking.”
Point well taken. There are examples of media companies putting sponsored content to good use.
Still, if the success model for sponsored content were truly worked out, everyone would be doing it and the approach would look much the same platform to platform. In fact, nothing could be further from reality.
So for now CTW shares the approach advocated by author and Forbes blogger, Paul Brown: Act. Pause and learn. Build and repeat. Brown believes action trumps everything else. Try something. Learn from it and then try again building on your learning. Makes sense to me.
CTW has literally thousands of well-reported, well-written topical articles to bring to the sponsored space. We’re looking for a few good partners to learn with and from, to on our learning and generate new revenue for all.
Tomorrow: Some things we have learned about sponsored content.
